• Current African-American female community college presidents will mentor prospective African-American female community college presidents
• A listserv will be established for current and prospective African-American female community college presidents to share information
• Webinars hosted by current African-American female community college presidents will be provided for prospective African-American female community college presidents
• Workshops hosted by current African-American female community college presidents will be provided for prospective African-American female community college presidents at the annual American Association of Community College conventions
• Current and prospective African-American female community college presidents will participate in leadership studies

Following are some of the activities that will be used to achieve the objectives:

This projects falls under this Vision 2020 goal: Goal #2: Increase the number of women in senior leadership positions in American life to reflect the workforce talent pool and demographics.

According to the American Association of Community Colleges, there are 1,167 community colleges in the United States, with only 60 of them having African-American females as presidents. With community college students comprising 44 percent of the total U.S. undergraduate population, the importance of a strong and diverse leadership in education has become more prevalent than ever.

With this project, Dr. Carter aims:

• To have an effect on awareness, specifically that 50 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents are aware of this initiative by December 2012
• To have an effect on attitude, specifically that 75 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative understand its benefits by December 2013
• To have an effect on behavior, specifically that 75 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative use it by December 2014
• To have an effect on behavior, specifically that 50 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative declare their interest in pursuing a community college presidency by December 2015
• To have an effect on behavior, specifically that 50 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative apply for at least one community college presidency by December 2016
• To have an effect on behavior, specifically that 50 percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative are hired for presidencies by December 2017

The target audiences for this project are:

• African-American female community college vice presidents
• African-American female community college directors
• African-American female community college deans
• Other African-American female community college administrators

The following measurement tools will be used to track outcomes:

• Surveys will be used to determine the percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are aware of this initiative and understand its benefits
• Information sheets will be used to determine the percentage of prospective African-American female community college presidents who sign up for the initiative
• Commitment forms will be used to determine the percentage of prospective African-American female community college presidents who declare their interest in pursuing a community college presidency
• Surveys will be used to determine the percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who apply for at least one community college presidency
• Reviews of the Presidents’ Round Table roster will be used to determine the percent of prospective African-American female community college presidents who are hired for community college presidencies

Vision 2020, developed by the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine, is a national initiative aiming to increase gender equality by the year 2020. Across the country, 102 national delegates carry out the initiative with individual projects meant to achieve greater equality for women in all aspects of life.

Following are the Vision 2020 goals:

• Goal #1: Achieve pay equity, so that equal pay for equal work will be the norm in America.
• Goal #2: Increase the number of women in senior leadership positions in American life to reflect the workforce talent pool and demographics.
• Goal #3: Educate employers about the value of policies and practices that enable men and women to share fairly their family responsibilities.
• Goal #4: Educate new generations of girls and boys to respect their differences and to act on the belief that America is at its best when leadership is shared and opportunities are open to all.
• Goal #5: Mobilize women in America to vote, with particular emphasis on a record-setting turnout in 2020, the centennial of the 19th Amendment.

Answer: Right now, I’ve just finished reading “The Outlander” series and am beginning “Bonhoeffer”, a book about a Lutheran pastor who spoke out against Hitler during the Holocaust.

Answer: I used to play Xbox with my brother; I’m not exactly a video game connoisseur but I did enjoy Halo, probably because it was the only game I was remotely good at.
