Dr. Linnie Carter represented her home state of Virginia at a White House Women’s Briefing Series on March 27, joining other state delegates to discuss the nationwide Vision 2020 initiative. Dr. Carter recently launched her Vision 2020 project, “Enriching Education: Sisters for Community College Leadership.”
The event, held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of the White House, hosted speakers who focused on women in leadership roles in all aspects of life. Featured speakers were from various governmental departments, including the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Vision 2020 initiative is a mission carried out by delegates from each state aiming to increase gender equality in the United States. The Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine developed the project with hopes to increase gender equality by the year 2020.
Dr. Carter’s Vision 2020 project intends to increase the number of African-American female community college presidents. In the United States today, only 60 out of 1,167 community colleges have African-American female presidents. Dr. Carter, with participation from current and prospective community college presidents across the country, plans to change this statistic.
