North Carolina A&T State University chapter of National Association of Black Journalists hosts panel discussion
Women in the journalism and mass communication professions have made great strides in achieving equality in pay and status over the years, but a gender gap still exists. This issue was discussed by a panel of three industry professionals, including Dr. Linnie S. Carter, president and CEO of Linnie Carter & Associates LLC, at North Carolina A&T State University (A&T) on Feb. 7.
Carter joined Ms. Leoneda Inge of North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC and Ms. Morgan Josey of the Greensboro News & Record in a panel discussion of “Bridging the Gender Gap: A Talk with Women in Journalism,” hosted by the A&T chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Kelcie McCrae, president of the chapter, served as moderator.
"In journalism, one’s gender has become less of an issue as more women rise to positions of power in the industry," said Carter. "Yet issues such as pay equity and opportunities to fill management positions still exist. This panel gave us an excellent opportunity to make the next generation of women journalists and public relations professionals aware of the gender gap and how they can work to bridge that gap."
NABJ is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.
