Panel Discussions Provided Writing, Publishing and Marketing Advice to Aspiring Novelists
Writing “the great American novel” is the goal of many authors, who wonder, “How do I get started? How do I get published? How do I promote my work?” Those questions, and more, were answered by a panel of 16 industry professionals, including Dr. Linnie S. Carter, at the Chesterfield Writers Club (CWC) Workshop on Nov. 6.
"The main goal of the event was to connect aspiring authors with industry professionals and share best practices," said Carter. "I am proud to have been one of the panelists for this event to help the participants achieve their goal of writing and publishing a novel."
Approximately 30 aspiring novelists gathered at the Meadowdale Library in Richmond, Va. to participate in the CWC workshop, “Writing a Novel from Paper to Publisher.” Panel discussion topics during the seven-hour session included “How to Get Started Writing Your Novel,” “The Craft of Writing a Novel,” “The Process of Writing a Novel,” “Getting Your Novel Published,” “Marketing and Promoting Your Novel” and “Local Area Writers Clubs: Novel-Writing Support Systems.”
Carter, president and CEO of Linnie Carter & Associates LLC, provided her expertise and insights to the “Marketing and Promoting Your Novel” session, drawing from her more than 17 years of experience in public relations and marketing to offer attendees valuable suggestions for promoting their work. “[Dr.] Carter had tons of great information,” said one workshop participant. “[I] learned things the author can do even without a publicist.”
